Austenite refers to stainless steel containing chromium 18% above, nickel 8% around, as well as a small amount of molybdenum, titanium, nitrogen and other elements. The large amount of Ni and Cr contained within makes the steel structure austenitic under room temperature. The commonly used Austenitic grades are 1Cr18Ni9, 0Cr19Ni9 and the like. For Austenitic steel like 0Cr19Ni9, as its C content is less than 0.08%, the steel grade is marked as "0" in front.
Austenitic stainless steel features good overall performance: good plasticity, toughness, weldability, corrosion resistance and non-magnetic properties. Its good corrosion resistance manifests itself in both oxidizing and reducing media. Hence, it is applied to make acid-resistant equipment such as corrosion-resistant containers, equipment lining , pipelines, and equipment parts resistant to nitric acid, etc.. In addition, it is used for stainless steel watches and clocks as the main material.
Austenitic stainless steel is generally dealt with solution treatment, i.e., after the steel is heated to 1050 ~1150 ° C, it is cooled off rapidly by water or naturally by air to secure a single-phase austenitic structure.
