ASTM B163 UNS N07718 Inconel 718 Seamless Tube Pipe in 6m length Customs Cutting Any Length

Nickel Alloy 718, frequently called Inconel® 718, is a precipitation hardenable corrosion and heat-resistant nickel alloy available in bars, forgings, sheets and plates. AMS 5662 and AMS 5663 limit sizes 10” and less between parallel sides with maximum cross-section area of 78 in2 for bars and finished forgings. It is a multiple melted alloy including VIM and/or VAR processes.

Alloy 718 (UNS N07718, 2.4668) is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant nickel chromium alloy. The additions of Nb, Ti and Al form a series of precipitates with Ni during the controlled solution annealing and ageing process steps, resulting in a significant increase in strength and hardness of this alloy compared with alternative nickel alloys. It can be supplied in a variety of different strength levels or conditions, depending upon the extent of the ageing heat treatment. The most common strength level is a yield strength greater than 120ksi, although a 150ksi variant has also been developed.

The alloy is widely used in the Oil and Gas and chemical production industries on account of its high strength and resistance to chlorides, stress corrosion and sulphide stress cracking. Applications include valve trim, pump shafts and down-hole components. Alloy 718 is also used in jet engine and high-speed airframe parts such as wheels, spacers and buckets plus high-temperature bolts and fasteners, although more commonly supplied against the AMS 5662/AMS5663 aerospace standards rather than API 6CRA for this application.

Typical Mechanical Properties

There are two main types of solution annealed and aging treatments:
1)
Solution Treatment (AMS 5662 Bar / AMS 5596 Sheet): 1725°F - 1850°F + Air Cool.
Heat Treatment (AMS 5663 Bar) : 1325°F for 8 hrs, cooling 100°F/hr to 1150°F, hold at 1150°F for 8hrs min, + Air Cool .

This treatment gives the highest room temperature tensile and yield strengths as well as producing the highest fatigue strength. It is the optimum heat treatment for Alloy 718 where a combination of rupture life, notch rupture life and rupture ductility is required.

2)
Alternative Solution Treatment (AMS 5664 Bar / AMS 5597 Sheet): 1900°F - 1950°F + Air Cool
Heat Treatment: 1400°F for 10hrs, furnace cool to 1200°F, hold at 1200°F for a total aging time of 20 hrs + Air Cool.

This is the prefered treatment in tensile-limited applications as it produces the best transverse ductility in heavy sections, impact strength and low temperature notch tensile strength. However, this treatment has a tendency to produce notch brittleness in stress rupture.
